WHAT SHALL I SAY?

Selection from a series of 20

Autumn 2023 (Multimedia on cotton rag paper. 16images  A4)

A series of witty and whimsical mixed-media works on cotton rag paper consider the theme of communication, specifically through letter-writing. Human emotions and situations may repeat themselves yet each era creates new perimeters of what can and cannot be said and the polite and proper ‘how’ of saying things. In our newly ‘Woke’ world these issues are revisited and receiving attention yet again, creating anew the opportunity to look back at what once was done. These works on paper contextualise the ‘Woke’ present in a broader historical framework of correctitudes.

A little volume from a previous era of advice on how to write a letter forms the basis of these subtly political mixed media works, charmingly highlighting differences in manners from our present world.
